I do not just like startups, but hiking is one of my favorite recreational activities. Whether we go by foot, bicycle or other ways. I love to camp and being far away from civilization. In July 2017, when I saw Crua Outdoors looking for investors at SeedRS, there was no question that I should support such a company. Although the company is still not cash positive today, but seeing the company’s progress and revenue developments, I think there is still plenty of potential in the company and further substantial growth. Very encouraging what they say in the pitch deck, we hope they will be able to keep themselves to the plan. I like it very much, that they are not scared of even running a kickstarter campaign. Customers love their products .
They are running their latest crowdfunding campaign so I’ve looked at how past investors were doing with their Crua Outdoors investment. Their first campaign was in November 2015, at that time the value of the company was GBP 720k, in July 2017 it was 1.7M, in January 2018 it was already GBP 2.7M, and now we are close to GBP 5M by September 2018. So, who invested in the company in 2015 has already got more than seven times of his investment. Unfortunately, I’m not that lucky. Since I have now invested in their current campaign, my average share price will increase.
However, it is important to mention that when you are investing in startup, you invests in their management rather than (just) the product/idea, so it is more important to know the leadership/management who are running the company. Unfortunately, not all startups are as prudent as Crua Outdoors, I’ve managed to invest in a company that has very negative judgment (no communication), I find it doubtful how long it will live. It is important to realize that it is good if 1 of 10 startups will be successful (ie. you get your investment back), so it’s no less risky than a pink-sheet stock investment.
